Water, plant tissue, soils and other growing media can be tested to determine the amounts of available minerals and nutrients present.

It is important to collect samples which are representative of items and locations being tested so that a proper investigative analysis can be made. Care should be taken during sampling and handling to ensure that samples are not contaminated with any other environmental or non-representative material. Testing can also performed to determine Acidity (pH) and/or Electrical Conductivity as applicable.
