Microbial Contamination

Items which are “Ready to Eat” in an uncooked state should be tested for Microbial contamination (e.g. E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria etc).

Pre-packed lines should also be tested for Microbial contamination as at or after their Use By or Best Before Dates to verify appropriate levels.

Woolworths and Coles have also defined “High Risk” items that may require more comprehensive Microbial testing.

Note : All detections of Listeria Monocytogenes are reportable by law to W.A. Dept of Health.

Standard Test Types

  • MB2 – E.coli and Listeria monocytogenes.
  • MB3 – E.coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella.
  • MB4 – E.coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Staphylococci and Coliforms.
    (Woolworths High Risk test)
  • MB7 – Listeria monocytogenes
  • MB16 – E.coli and Salmonella
    (Coles standard test)

  • MB1 – E.coli
  • MB5 – Listeria species
  • MB6 – Listeria species count
  • MB8 – Thermotolerant coliforms
  • MB10 – Salmonella
  • MB11 – Yeasts and Moulds
  • MB12 – Moisture content
